I'm starting a Silicon Valley chapter of Food Not Bombs:

After sufficiently loading him up on whiskey and my signature vegan vegetable soup, I had talked my friend and bandmate Osprey to assist me with my latest humanitarian effort: to ingest a shit ton of intoxicants, make hundreds of PB & J sandwiches, and travel Silicon Valley in search of hungry people. The phrasing is facetious; there are hungry people everywhere in Silicon Valley.

I posted on facebook that we were going to get high and give out sandwiches, and invited our friends to join us.

Hugh Jasoll, my Trans!Fix collaborator, posted an article to the seven steps to create a Food Not Bombs chapter.

At first the idea didn’t do anything for me, especially considering there clearly had to be a chapter of Food Not Bombs in my area.

Except there isn’t. At least not from the research I’ve done (there is a Food Not Bombs presence in San Jose but not one specifically for Silicon Valley). Which is troubling.

It may seem more obvious to have larger presences in the more urban, more populated areas of the Bay, but being homeless and/or hungry in Silicon Valley is its own special hell for what I hope are obvious reasons.

Oh well. Why not? I’ll never get to join the Green Lantern Corps or be a Planeteer. This is like the closest most of us will ever get to joining a superhero group.

Right now there’s three of us; we’re looking for more volunteers. We intend to service East Palo Alto, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, and the unincorporated Fair Oaks neighborhood. We’ll be hitting downtown areas and Caltrain/bus stations mostly as that is where the help is most needed.

We are looking for several volunteers to work short shifts to help this event be the best it can be. Shifts will be 30 Minutes to 45 Minutes long depending on the role being played.

4:30 PM to 5:30PM —- Setup – 3 to 4 people

5:45 to

6:45 PM —- Sidewalk Greeters - 1 to 2 people

5:45 to 6:45 PM —- Ushers - 1 to 2 people

6 to 8 PM 2 runners/troubleshooters during the event
8:15 PM to 9:15PM —- Breakdown – 3 to 4 people

Food Runners —-TBD – if interested please let us know – 2 to 3 people

Food Handlers —- 2 people to help with food once it has arrived –

To participate in NaNoWriMo but not actually follow any of the rule, Hugh Jasoll and I will be collaborating on a one-poem-a-day poetry book for the entire month of November.

We’d like other trans* and gender variant folk to contribute as well. One poem a day. Can be any style you want.

I think I’ll create a tumblr just to post all of them and then when it’s done I will make it into a book that we can put on shelves and gaze at amorously behind coffee cups.

that’s the problem I have with a lot of communities- (black, lgbt, etc.)

so obsessed with ensuring the wider public that we’re all sisters and brothers and good that when someone doesnt behave how they are ‘expected’ to by their community (forgetting that though we have similar likeness, we are humans with different complex identities that cannot be determined by one characteristic) it’s like they are almost ‘betraying’ said community
